For the protection of your account, Downstate requires the use of 2-factor authentication (2FA).
The Microsoft Authenticator mobile app makes 2FA authentication simple whilst maintaining a high level of security.
A QR code displayed on your computer allows you to set it up quickly with your Downstate account. Once configured, it offers multiple options for security. This can be very useful when you're overseas or unable to access cellular data!

The next steps are done on the phone app
Click the plus sign at upper right to add your Downstate account.
Choose Work or school account.
Choose Scan QR code from the pop-up on the phone, then use the camera to view the QR code displayed on your computer. You will need to grant permission for Authenticator to access your camera for this step.
Once the QR code is recognized, your Downstate account will confirm the Authenticator connection by displaying a two-digit code in your browser window.
Enter the two-digit code into the new dialog box that appears in the Authenticator app on your phone. You will also need to click on “Yes” in the dialog box on your phone to show you approve the login.
If successful, the web browser will display a confirmation message.
