Setup Office 365 email on iPhone or iPad

Overview

You may setup Office 365 email on your iPhone, iPad via either the Apple Mail app or by installing the Outlook app.

Issue

Apple Mail:

  1. Go to Settings; scroll down to Mail and open it.
  2. Click on Accounts, then choose Add Account.
  3. Select "Microsoft Exchange".
  4. Enter your Downstate email address in the Mail field; put "Downstate" in Description.
  5. A "Sign In" popup will appear; choose Sign In.
  6. You may be asked to trust a self-signed security certificate.  Choose "Trust".
  7. Enter your current NetID password.
  8. It may take some time to sync your mail.  (Default is one month of Inbox and other folders.)
  9. You may also be asked to sync your Downstate 0365 account Calendar and Contacts. 

 

Outlook:

  1. On your iOS device, open the App Store and search for Microsoft Outlook
  2. Tap the Get button
  3. Once the app is installed tap the Open button
  4. You will be prompted to set up a new account
  5. Enter your email address
  6. Tap Add Account
  7. You will be presented with a 2-step authentication prompt.
  8. Enter the password for your Computer User ID and tap Sign in
  9. You will be taken to your Inbox where you can configure the Outlook app
  10. If you want Outlook to be your default mail app open the Settings app and navigate to:
    1. Outlook
    2. Default Mail App
    3. Choose Outlook
Troubleshooting

If you continue to have issues setting up your email please ensure to turn your device off and turn it back on.
