Making Zoom Sessions Accessible

Accessible Zoom sessions are easier for all participants to use and help support ADA and WCAG requirements.

Use Captions

  • Zoom can provide automatic captions during meetings.
  • Captions should be enabled whenever possible and reviewed afterward if a recording will be shared.

Speak Clearly

  • Use a good microphone, speak at a moderate pace, and avoid talking over other participants.
  • If questions are asked in chat or by voice, repeat them before answering.

Describe Visual Content

  • Do not rely only on what appears on screen.
  • Read important slide text aloud and briefly describe charts, graphs, images, or demonstrations being shared.
  • Zoom also supports keyboard shortcuts, screen readers, and transcript views for recordings.

Use Accessible Shared Content

  • Slides should use large fonts, good color contrast, and simple layouts.
  • If you share documents or websites during the session, make sure they are readable and accessible.

Review Before Sharing Recordings

Before posting a Zoom recording, make sure:

  • Captions are accurate
  • Audio is clear
  • Shared content is readable
  • Important visuals are described
