Use the Course Selector to display a list of courses.
Click on the course that will receive the imported materials.
Click on Course Tools, then choose Course Admin.
Click on Import/Export/Copy Components.
Select Copy components from another Org Unit. Then click on the grey Search for Offering button.
Archive courses copied from Bb Learn can be identified because they don’t have a regular course title. Instead, they have the Bb Learn CourseID code as the course title.
In the example shown here, searching Brightspace for NRMW 5112 shows two results. One is the copied archive that was originally given in Blackboard Learn in Fall 2021. Compare the title (Course Offering) of the copied archive to the title of the Brightspace course.
Archive: BRK-202120-HR-NRMW5112-001-2821
Course: 22FA NRMW 5112: PHYSICAL ASSESS OF WOMEN – DIDACT 2821
Search for the source of the materials to import; select it and click on Add Selected.
This returns you to the Import page. Note that your selected source course has now replaced the grey Search for Offering button. Now you will decide what to copy from the archive. Choose the grey Select Components button at bottom right.
Why not use “Copy All Components” button?
Bb Learn archives often contain a mix of useable and unuseable items:
- archaic course files and announcements that are no longer in use but hidden from students instead of deleted from the course;
- older versions of tests that contain many of the same questions as recent tests;
- items such as Gradebook and Discussion Forums that would be easier and safer to set up directly in Brightspace.
It’s faster to review and select items at this step than to review and hide items after copying them into your Brightspace course. And if you change your mind later, you can come back to select and copy items that you skipped.
During the next step, you will choose major categories of items to copy such as Content and Quizzes (tests). You will also designate whether to copy all items within that category or whether you wish to review and select from a list.
Scroll the list of major categories. Check off the checkbox for major item types like Content and Quizzes. In each case we recommend that you select the option to Select individual items to copy. Then click on Continue.
If you chose Select items to copy in the prior step, Brightspace will display a series of pages, one for each category. The page will list items for you to select.
Click on the plus signs to expand the list of items; Use the checkboxes to select any items for copying. When you are done selecting items in that category, click on Continue to save your selections and move to the next category.
When you have completed making your selections, you are offered the chance to confirm your selections as well as an Offset Dates option. Use this option to change all the “start access” and “stop access” date controls that may be present on the copied items — for example, on tests and assignment dropboxes.
This option may not work for items copied from a Bb Learn archive. If you are copying from a prior Brightspace course, it’s a useful feature: automatically update the start access/stop access dates on copied items to reflect the current semester.
Click on the Finish button to begin copying.
Progress is indicated by a spinning horizontal bar.
When completed, you can click on the View Content button to jump to the Table of Contents page.
Use the Table of Contents and the Course Builder features in your course to view, move, delete and hide the newly copied items.
